The Battle of Bunker
Hill (1775) was the largest military conflict in Boston during the Revolution. The
British troops ultimately defeated the American Patriots, but lost more than 1,000 people (including the dead and the wounded) in the
bloddy battle, where the Americans also lost about 450 people. The Bunker Hill
Monument is a 67 m high granite obelisk built between 1827 and 1841. Visitors
can climb to the top and have a look at the panorama of Boston. In front of the
obelisk stands the statue of Colonel William Prescott, the commander of the
American forces in the battle.
