The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is the other world-famous higher educational institution in Cambridge besides Harvard. It was founded in 1861 for the education of natural sciences and engineering, and today its graduate programs in mathematics, physics, chemistry, engineering, and computer science are considered one of the best in the US. The institution boasts more than 60 current and former professors and alumni who have won the Nobel Prize.
