The Brooklyn Bridge is the oldest bridge in New York, completed in 1883. It connects downtown Manhattan with Brooklyn, carrying motor vehicles and pedestrians. Train and streetcar traffic was discontinued after 1950. The bridge is 1825 m long, and at the time of its opening, it was the longest suspension bridge in the world due to its 486 m central span.
