Baroque masterpiece of Sir Christopher Wren (who built 52 churches in London alone). It was built at the turn of the 17th and 18th c.
Its dome is one of the highest in the world (113 m). The medieval church burnt down in the Fire of London (1666). It is the seat of the Bishop of London. Famous people buried here: Sir Christopher Wren, Admiral Horatio Nelson, the Duke of Wellington. The wedding of Prince Charles and Diana was held here (1981).
A consolation to Hungarians... It is not only in Budapest (Szent István Bazilika) where out of style, concrete "Stalinist-realist" buildings crowd around (bottom right) the most important Cathedral of the capital... There are no parks, no breathing space... Sir Christopher Wren must be quite unhappy with this choice of surroundings...
