The port from which Sir Francis Drake (bottom) left to sail around the world and to sack many Spanish treasure ships carrying Inca and Aztec gold. Sir Walter Raleigh (1 of the lovers of Queen Elizabeth I) set sail to North and South America and awaited the Spanish Armada's attack in 1588 here in Plymouth Port. In 1620 the Puritans left for America on the Mayflower from here. James Cook sailed to Australia, New Zealand and Hawaii - 1778 (1st European to do so) from here.
