Leinster House, built in the 1740s, is the home of the Irish Parliament since 1922: the foundation of the Irish Free State which became the Irish Republic in 1949. The statue of Queen Victoria was removed from the front of the building in 1947. In 1945 the Hungarians replaced the statues of the Habsburg rulers at Hõsök tere with those of the Transylvanian Princes and Lajos Kossuth.
