This is where the leaders of the various Irish revolts (1798, 1803,1848, 1867, 1916) were imprisoned and/or executed. The last prisoner was Eamon de Valera who later became PM of Ireland, then President of the Irish Republic. The prison was closed in 1924 and functions today as a museum.
