When the UK was preparing to defend herself against a possible invasion of Napoleon they had these towers (bottom right) built along the Irish Coast (south-east) to act as watchtowers. 100 years later most of these towers were already owned by artists or some rich people who could afford to buy one. James Joyce spent a week in this (top) tower as a guest of his friend (Oliver Gogarty) who is portrayed in Ulysseys as Buck Mulligan. It functions as a museum of Joyce relics, such as his death mask (bottom left) his letters to his friends and future wife, pictures of his life, his manuscripts, guitar and walking stick, etc...
