Performed every night in front of the royal castle (during the Edinburgh Festival) for about 1.5 hours the Military Tattoo draws a crowd of about 9000 people. The number of soldiers who perform is also very high: ~ 600. The Tattoo began in 1950 with just 8 items in the programme.
