Holyrood Palace - at the end of the Royal Mile; Built in 1529 for James V and Mary of Guise. Their daughter, Mary Queen of Scots was married to the French heir but when he died Mary returned to Scotland (a widow at age 18) and lived here. She had her 2nd wedding here (with Lord Darnley). It was also here that Darnley had Mary's Italian piano teacher murdered (purportedly they had a secret love affair). Today it is an official residence of the Queen.
Bottom: Ruins of the abbey ruin adjacent to the Palace.
