The Old State House (built 1713) is the oldest surviving public building in Boston. It housed the General Court (the legislative body) of Massachusetts before and during the War of Independence, until 1798. The Boston Massacre (1770) took place next to the building; its place is marked by a cobblestone ring on the ground.
