The Empire State Building
was completed in 1931 in midtown Manhattan. With its full height of 381 m
(without the broadcast antenna) and its 102 floors, it was the tallest building
in the world for decades, until the World Trade Center overtook it in 1972. But
since the tragic destruction of WTC, the Empire State Building is again the
tallest in New York City. The building was made world famous by the movie King Kong in 1933, in which the giant
gorilla climbed to the top of the building, where he was ultimately killed by
airplanes and fell down.
