The Korean War Veterans Memorial, located south of the National Mall in Washington D.C., commemorates those American soldiers who died or disappeared during the Korean War (1950-1953). The Memorial was constructed between 1993 and 1995. It consists of a triangle, inside which there are 19 steel larger-than-life statues depicting American soldiers on patrol. There is also a Pool of Remembrance nearby, with a black granite wall listing those who died or disappeared in the conflict, including soldiers of all the nations who participated in the conflict under the banner of the United Nations. The motto of the Memorial is the following: "Our nation honors her sons and daughters who answered the call to defend a country they never knew and a people they never met."
