Kansas is considered one of the most typical states of the western Midwest. It lies in the geographic center of the Continental US, equally far away from the Atlantic and the Pacific. The state is almost completely flat, although rising very gently towards the Rockies, and is mostly rural, with  few large cities. The climate gradually get drier as one travels westward, therefore Kansas agriculture relies heavily on irrigation for growing wheat and corn.
