Americans are fascinated with records and being the first or the best in something, even if it is only a trivial achievement. The attraction to 'bests' and 'mosts' occasionally produces slightly weird achievements, as in the case of this enormous cross which stands in the Texas Panhandle in the middle of rural farmland, hundreds of miles away from any major city or even larger town. The claim is doubtful at least, especially as the Western Hemisphere includes South America, where there may well be larger crosses on display than this one.
