The state of Colorado, although it cannot boast the highest peak in the Continental US, has the highest average elevation in the country, with more than 50 mountain peaks rising above 4,000 m.  The landscape of the state may remind European visitors of the Alps, with snow-capped peaks, pine forests, and beatiful mountain meadows. Naturally, the state is also the biggest ski resort area of the US.
